6th Annual Write on the River Writers Competition Now OpenJanuary 6, 2014, Wenatchee, WA—The 6th-Annual Write on the River Writers Competition, sponsored by ALCOA, is open for submissions. Washington state residents are eligible to submit original works of 1,000 words or less in nonfiction (an essay, article, or memoir on any theme or subject) or fiction (a short story or narrative on any theme or subject).Entries must be postmarked by February 21. Each eligible manuscript will be read and judged according to the following criteria:· idea (a provocative and insightful theme)· organization and development (unity, order, depth)· expression (voice, word choice, fluency)· conventions of grammar and spellingCash prizes will be awarded in each category: $300 first place, $200 second place, $100 third place.
